He treats children from birth through adolescence for the full spectrum of pediatric urological conditions — from hypospadias and vesicoureteral reflux to posterior urethral valves, prune-belly syndrome, bladder dysfunction, kidney stones, varicocele, inguinal hernia, and congenital anomalies of the urinary tract. He consults in Arabic, French, and English.

Since 2017, more than 1,850 families in Lebanon have entrusted Dr. Anthony Kallas Chemaly with the urologic care of their children, reflecting a sustained pediatric volume of roughly 200 cases per year. From prenatal diagnosis to adolescent surgery — each condition has a dedicated page with symptoms, diagnosis, treatment options, and answers to parents' questions.

Bedwetting — التبول الليلي — Énurésie nocturne

Persistent nighttime wetting beyond age 5–6 years. A thorough evaluation identifies underlying causes — from behavioral factors to bladder dysfunction — leading to targeted treatment.

تبول ليلي عند الأطفال · pipi au lit enfant · child bedwetting treatment Learn more →

Bladder Dysfunction — اضطراب وظيفة المثانة — Dysfonction vésicale

Urgency, daytime accidents, holding maneuvers, recurrent UTIs, or incomplete emptying can all reflect bladder dysfunction. Treatment may include bowel management, uroflowmetry, medication, and retraining.

اضطراب وظيفة المثانة عند الأطفال · dysfonction vésicale enfant · bladder dysfunction child Learn more →

Bladder Exstrophy — انقلاب المثانة — Exstrophie vésicale

A rare congenital condition where the bladder develops outside the body. Requires staged surgical reconstruction — often beginning in the newborn period — to close the bladder, repair the abdominal wall, and preserve kidney function and future continence.

انقلاب المثانة عند الأطفال · exstrophie vésicale enfant · bladder exstrophy repair child Learn more →

Circumcision — الختان — Circoncision

Surgical removal of the foreskin, performed for medical, religious, or cultural reasons. In children with hypospadias or certain penile conditions, circumcision must be deferred and performed only by a pediatric urologist to preserve tissue needed for future repair.

DSD (Disorders of Sex Development) — اضطرابات التمايز الجنسي — Anomalies du développement sexuel

Complex conditions where reproductive or genital development differs from typical male or female patterns. Requires a multidisciplinary team approach including pediatric urology, endocrinology, genetics, and psychology for accurate diagnosis, family counseling, and individualized management.

Hydrocele — القيلة المائية — Hydrocèle

Fluid accumulation around the testicle causing scrotal swelling. Often resolves in infants, but persistent hydrocele beyond 12–18 months typically requires a minor surgical procedure.

انتفاخ الخصية عند الأطفال · hydrocèle enfant · scrotal swelling child Learn more →

Hydronephrosis — موه الكلية — Hydronéphrose

Swelling of the kidney due to urine buildup, often detected on prenatal ultrasound. Most mild cases resolve on their own, but moderate to severe hydronephrosis requires timely evaluation — untreated obstruction can lead to irreversible loss of kidney function.

توسع حوض الكلية عند الجنين · hydronéphrose fœtale · prenatal hydronephrosis Learn more →

Hypospadias — الإحليل التحتي — Hypospadias

A congenital condition where the urethral opening is on the underside of the penis. Surgical repair between 6–18 months achieves excellent functional and cosmetic results when performed by a high-volume pediatric urologist. Circumcision must not be performed beforehand — the foreskin tissue is needed for repair.

عملية الإحليل التحتي · chirurgie hypospadias · hypospadias repair Learn more →

Inguinal Hernia — الفتق الإربي — Hernie inguinale

A groin bulge caused by tissue passing through a weak spot in the abdominal wall. In children, surgical repair is recommended to avoid incarceration, pain, or sudden swelling.

Undescended Testis — الخصية المعلقة — Cryptorchidie

When one or both testicles fail to descend into the scrotum. Surgery (orchidopexy) is recommended by 12 months of age. Delaying beyond this window may permanently affect fertility and increases the risk of testicular complications later in life.

عملية الخصية المعلقة · traitement cryptorchidie · undescended testicle surgery Learn more →

UPJ Obstruction — انسداد الوصل الحالبي الحويضي — Obstruction jonction pyélo-urétérale

Blockage at the junction where the kidney meets the ureter. When significant, pyeloplasty — an operation to widen the connection — restores normal urine drainage and protects kidney function.

Dr. Kallas Chemaly specializes in the full spectrum of pediatric urological conditions: hypospadias, vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), undescended testis (cryptorchidism), hydronephrosis, posterior urethral valves, prune-belly syndrome, bladder dysfunction, pediatric kidney stones, neurogenic bladder, hydrocele, varicocele, inguinal hernia, ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction, urethral stricture and rupture, and bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis). He treats children from birth through adolescence.
You should consult a pediatric urologist if your child has been diagnosed with hypospadias, an undescended testicle, recurrent urinary tract infections, hydronephrosis detected on prenatal ultrasound, vesicoureteral reflux, persistent bedwetting beyond age 5–6, kidney stones, or any congenital abnormality of the urinary or genital tract. Early evaluation leads to better outcomes — many conditions are best treated within the first year of life.
